ART DIRECTION + DESIGN

Creative Kindling - Mills James

I co-authored Mills James’ award-winning card game that functioned both as a promotional item and creative storytelling toolkit. I provided design and print execution, creative direction, and copywriting.

Columbus CEO Magazine, 2-page spread - Mills James

Following their rebrand in 2017, Mills James wanted a new approach to how they advertise themselves. I directed an ad series to highlight the people behind the work - the “creative” behind the videos and events.

I wanted to evoke the classic Vanity Fair style group-shot of the entertainment professionals in their natural environment, posed confidently among the studio lights and road cases.

I directed the photoshoot (including scheduling, wardrobe, and scenic), designed the spread, and prepared the files for print.

35th Anniversary Campaign - Mills James

Winner, 2019 Creative Best Awards, Campaigns Category

As a celebration of their 35th anniversary, Mills James wanted to tell their story through the decades.

As the art director, I worked with the Mills James video team to create these four idents* — one for the ‘80s, ‘90s, ‘00s, and 2010’s - using Mills James’ actual logos from those decades.

I wanted the idents to feel as authentic and convincing as possible, so every aspect had to capture the vibe of each decade. I scoured YouTube and compiled dozens of historic TV idents so the animators and sound engineer could match the complexity of the animation, the image & audio quality, style of music, and overall tone.

The four videos & accompanying blogs were published on social each week starting on their anniversary, May 1, 2019.

*(A production company’s “ident” is the logo animation that plays before or after the film/TV broadcast. Like the MGM lion or the Universal globe.)

HRC Gala Program Ad - Mills James

This ad appeared in the event program for the 2019 HRC Columbus Gala. As a sponsor of the event, Mills James wanted an ad that illustrated their mission to uplift their client’s stories over their own, while also representing the sophistication of their brand. I wrote the copy, designed the ad, and prepared the file for print.
